Why we have moved to Madeira Island and you should too!

Why Madeira

Madeira is a Portuguese island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. It has got many names: "The Island of Eternal Spring", "The Hawaii of Europe" and "The Pearl of Atlantic", whatever you call it, this place always remains very special and pretty unique. It's not for no reason Madeira has won the title of The Best Island Destination in the World 8 times in a row! And now we know for sure that title is well deserved!

As Photographers and Content Creators, we always search for the most visually pleasing locations. As the first time we've heard about this island we were absolutely sure that this place would be perfect for us. And we weren't mistaken!

Moving to Madeira

This island is a real gem! The landscape of Madeira is unique and very diverse. There are high mountains and rugged cliffs, green valleys, dense forests and beautiful beaches. I know it's difficult to believe that one island can offer so much! But that's true. And you should definitely come here to see all this beauty with your own eyes! The weather here is another pleasant surprise. It is warm here with about 15 degrees Celsius on average throughout the year. Such a weather makes Madeira a cozy place to be. It feels sunny on a cloudy day. And even rains can't spoil your trip, they will just add a mystery vibe, so you'll get a perfect chance to catch a moody atmosphere in famous Madeira Fanal Forest.

All of these make Madeira a great gateway destination for tourists from Europe, who look for an exotic place but don't want to travel long and too far. And it makes this island a perfect place to stay and enjoy every day of your life, forgetting that your vacation is done long time ago and that's just your new everyday life with an exciting routine. Well, you'll need some time to get used to live in Paradise!

Digital Nomads Program on Madeira

In 2021 Madeira government started a project called Digital Nomads Madeira Islands, with the main concept being to attract digital nomads to Madeira by providing a unique experience in the form of what is titled the Digital Nomad Village. The concept is to provide living and coworking community for digital nomads on the island. Programs like this one are a great opportunity for people who work remotely, just like us, to explore the island, building their lives in this beautiful place.

What to do on Madeira

Traveling Madeira is very easy and can be done with a rental car which is the most popular option or with one of many group tours. The most popular tourist attraction on the island are Levada Walks. Levadas are irrigation canals which transport water to the drier parts of the island. Along the canals you'll find hiking paths which can take you on adventure through a dense forest, long dark tunnels or even waterfalls which are often being the source of the water in levadas. Levada Walks are real adventure!

Madeira Viewpoints

There are many things we like about Madeira, but our favourite thing is that Madeira has so many beautiful viewpoints. There are fantastic locations for photography and they often feature parking areas, tables and benches or even a BBQ. Most of the viewpoints are in a reach of a car, so you can basically step out from your vehicle and just after few steps witness the most incredible views on the island. Madeirans love places with a view, that's why there are so many spots where you can admire the beauty of the island. It's often just enough to open the map on your phone and type "Miradouro" and there's a good chance that you will find a viewpoint just couple hundred meters from you.

Madeira is still an unknown destination and many people outside Europe have never even heard of it. That's why now it is the best time to travel to Madeira Island before the crowds arrive. Check our YouTube channel Picture the World to see videos with travel recommendations from Madeira.
